Curtis Jones was born and raised in Springfield, Missouri. He cut his spiritual teeth in a small country church where, on some Sundays, the congregation was made up of just three or four families. He spent many weekends with his grandparents and would wake up early in the morning to peek around the corner and watch his grandfather prepare his Sunday School lesson.
At the age of 17, Curtis began to sense God calling him into ministry. Recognizing this call on his life, his pastor would arrange for Curtis to preach at very small churches in the area that needed ministers to fill in on Sunday mornings. God began shaping and refining his spiritual gifts, affirming his call, and placing within him a heart for preaching and teaching. He also brought along strong mentors like evangelist Bob Caldwell, Mission’s Pastor William Taylor, and Pastor John Durham, who took him under their wing, loved him, and encouraged him in his vocation. Through their influence, Curt developed a passion for Scripture as well as a love for missions.
Curtis was in college when a female friend from his church dared him to do his first Beth Moore Bible study. He kept it quiet because what man would readily admit he was doing a Bible study called A Woman’s Heart, God’s Dwelling Place? It was in that Bible study that he first heard of Beth’s daughter, Amanda—never entertaining the thought that they’d meet. As only a sovereign God could arrange, their churches paired up several summers later for inner-city missions and they were put on the same servant team. Each of them determined to resist the pressure of several persistent matchmakers, but thankfully failed. Curtis and Amanda fell in love, survived a long-distance engagement, and were married in 2002.
In the years that followed, Curtis graduated from Houston Baptist University and served at churches in Northern England, Houston and Irving, Texas. Most recently, the Joneses celebrated the second birthday of their son, Jackson. Curtis serves on the staff of Living Proof Ministries, sharing Beth’s passion to see people come to know and love God through the study of His Word. Curtis serves the ministry as an associate teacher/speaker, cultural research assistant, and our first in-house ordained minister. In addition to helping create Bible study resources for both men and women through LPM, Curtis’ position is designed to also allow him the freedom to speak at a certain number of outside events. Invitations may be submitted by completing our online invitation form.
A Letter from Beth
With great joy I welcome my beloved son-in-law, Curtis Jones, to the staff of Living Proof Ministries. The announcement may be news to you, but the vision has been on our hearts and minds for several years. Amanda and Curtis were engaged the first time she took me to hear him preach. I vividly recall looking up from my Bible with astonishment at this young man, scarcely 20 years old, who was—how shall I say—bringing it. Amanda had told me that the boy could preach but she was head-over-heels about him and I’d lived long enough to know that love was not only blind, it was deaf. Turned out, the child knew what she was talking about. In that small sanctuary packed with teenagers on a mission trip, I looked toward the ceiling and silently pried, “God, what on earth are You up to?”
We believe that this is exactly what God was up to, at least for this treasured season of our lives. Let me tell you a few things I love about my son-in-law that God used to foster the trust for me to open a door with Curtis’s name on it at LPM. For starters, the young man loves Jesus and seeks Him as consistently and as feverishly as anyone I’ve ever—I said ever—seen. Nobody has to talk him into it. Nobody has to remind him what’s important. He gets out of the bed and into the Word…every single day. I have insider knowledge that he is the man inside his home that he appears to be outside his home. And I respect that. Curtis is also a voracious reader and stays up on every conceivable thing affecting the church today. That’s why cultural research will be part of his job at LPM.
Now, for one of my very favorite things about Curtis: he will give everything he’s got to a group of thirty or a group of three thousand. I’ve watched carefully as God has placed Curt in one position after another to test the mettle of his servant’s heart and I’ve watched it prove genuine over and over. With tremendous joy and confidence I can tell you that he comes to Living Proof Ministries to serve Jesus Christ through serving people.
A recommendation about Curtis Jones wouldn’t be complete without saying that he’s a man who loves his wife, Amanda, and son, Jackson. He peppers his messages endearingly with authentic life lessons God has taught him through them both. Simply put, I think you’re going to like him. He’s real. And he’s relevant. If Curtis Jones continues to grow as much in his gifting in the next decade as he has in the last, I’m liable to find myself working for him.
Curtis joins LPM as an associate teacher/speaker, cultural research assistant, and resident ordained minister. He will also help develop discipleship materials and make our website a place as welcoming to a man as a woman. Thank you for helping us welcome this fabulous young man to our Living Proof Ministry family. May the Body of Christ be edified and the Name of Christ glorified!
